Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff for summer, and that's a perfect time to bust out the grill and have a cookout. For those into electronic music, you probably want to head out to see a live act instead of just hitting shuffle on your Spotify playlist. A beloved nightclub in New Jersey will have one of the most eclectic electronic music festivals in the Northeast, and it's sure to be the best way to welcome the new season.
QXT's will host Human Music 2017, which will deliver some of the best acts in chiptune, synthwave, darkwave, and electronic music. On Saturday, May 27, day one of the festival features a headlining performance from Idaho synthwave outfit Magic Sword, whose music is featured in the video game Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. Pittsburgh synthwave artist Betamaxx will be making his debut performance at this festival. The act's song "Redlining 6th" is featured in the soundtrack to the Swedish short film Kung Fury. Also making their debut performance are new wave duo Dead Astronauts, who released their new album Arms of Night back in November. Other acts set to perform that night are Trey Frey, The Rain Within, and boaconstructor.
On Sunday, May 28, the event kicks off in the afternoon with a slew of performers ready to take the stage. Headlining day two are California synthwave duo Dance With The Dead, who are making their East Coast debut. The outfit released their latest studio album The Shape last year. In January, they released a compilation of B-sides. Throughout the day, folks will catch a handful of chiptune acts such as Bit Shifter and Defiant Systems and electronic duos such as Skeleton Hands and ÆON RINGS.
Tickets for this event are on sale right now. QXT's is located on 248 Mulberry Street, which is a few blocks away from Newark Penn Station and the Prudential Center. Follow the nightclub on Facebook and Twitter for updates about the event.
