Folk-pop duo Indigo Girls is bringing their perfect harmonies and thought-provoking lyrics to State Theatre New Jersey on March 26, and fans can snap up tickets to see this classic double act beginning Nov. 9 through the AXS event page.
Amy Ray and Emily Saliers began recording as Indigo Girls in 1985 and rose to prominence just a few years later. They won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Recording in 1989 for their self-titled sophomore album. The record was also certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on the strength of their hit song "Closer To Fine."
Other memorable songs followed like "Galileo", which you can listen to by playing the video above. They also racked up six other Grammy Award nominations. as well as two Gold records and two Platinum albums.
What made them so successful then is what makes them worth seeing live now: that they use their voices to do more than make music. Their songs aren't just typical ballads or songs about relationships; they are songs about the world at large and concepts bigger than any one person. "Galileo," for example, talks about the idea of reincarnation while also telling the story of the Italian astronomer.
More recently, Indigo Girls released their fourteenth and most recent album One Lost Day. They've also begun performing select concerts with symphony orchestras, while they continue to tour by themselves as well.
They're one of the acts participating in Brandi Carlisle's Girls Just Wanna Weekend, a festival dedicated to female artists, which takes place at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Riviera Maya, Mexico from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3. The lineup also includes Maren Morris, KT Tunstall, Patty Griffin, and more; tickets to that event are available through AXS.
More than 30 years after they first started, Indigo Girls are continuing to travel the country as one of the most well-known duos in music. Get your tickets this week to see them live at the State Theatre and enjoy some of their many songs that will encourage audiences to open their minds as well as their hearts.
