With her promotional debut completed and spot on the Invicta FC roster solidified, undefeated Missouri talent Miranda "The Maverick" Maverick (2-0) is planning to take a less conservative approach at Invicta FC 24.
The 20-year-old didn't disappoint in her first two starts under the Invicta FC banner. With back-to-back first-round finishes by submission, Maverick proved to be one of the top young grappling aces in the sport.
But now with a few extra months of seasoning, she's hoping to show off some new wrinkles in her game when she collides with fellow submission master Gabby Romero (2-1) on July 15. Maverick wants to show that she's well-rounded, not just an elite BJJ prospect.
"My opponent obviously has an excellent ground game, which is what I am also known for," Maverick told AXS. "Perhaps we'll see that Maverick streak come out and see a more aggressive, multidimensional version of myself. Either way, I am excited and ready for war!"
As Maverick noted, sometimes a collision between a pair of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu masters results in a stand-up battle. With Maverick and Romero fairly even skill-wise on the mat, perhaps the ladies will want to see who the better striker is before hitting the canvas.
Maverick vs. Romero was a late addition to Invicta FC 24, a fight card that had numerous changes due to fighters getting injured or jumping ship to the UFC. "I was surprised that I got onto the Invicta card on such short notice, but I am thrilled," Maverick said of the short-notice opportunity. Maverick fights Romero on July 15 at Kansas City's Scottish Rite. The bout airs live on UFC Fight Pass.
