Pop superstar Britney Spears was honored at this year's Radio Disney Music Awards, which aired on April 30. Rising stars Kelsea Ballerini, Hailee Steinfeld, Sofia Carson and sister Jamie Lynn Spears performed a special medley of Britney's biggest hits.
The launch of Radio Disney and Spears' own career with 1998's "...Baby One More Time" pretty much go hand-in-hand. The station has supported the former "Mickey Mouse Club" Mouseketeer since then and up until her most recent singles from last year's Glory album. Radio Disney decided to honor Britney with the first ever Icon Award and also lined-up a few new stars to perform her hits.
Country singer-songwriter Ballerini opened the tribute in a red bodysuit with a guitar-driven version of 2000's "Oops!... I Did it Again" that led into Steinfeld's feisty take on 2008's "Circus." Carson, dressed in Spears' iconic schoolgirl outfit, kept things faithful down to the choreography for "...Baby One More Time" that had Britney and her mom, Lynne, singing along. The surprise finale that got Spears on her feet was little sister Jamie Lynn taking on 2011's "Till the World Ends," slaying it just like Britney. Radio Disney pulled out all the stops in making the tribute an epic moment for Britney fans both old and new.
After the performances, Spears walked up to the stage and accepted her Icon Award. She had to wait for the roar of "Britney! Britney! Britney!" to die down before thanking her fans for being "the freaking best" and her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, who were also in attendance.
