Jay Leno has added a North Carolina stop to his 2019 tour plans. The late-night legend will perform at Durham Performing Arts Center on Friday, Sept. 20. Watch Leno test out a few new monologue jokes on "The Tonight Show" by playing the video above, then get tickets to see Jay Leno live starting this Friday, Feb. 15 here at AXS.

Leno currently hosts the automotive program "Jay Leno's Garage" on CNBC, and remains best known for hosting "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" for more than 20 years. He was NBC's late-night host from 1992 until 2009 and then from 2010 to 2014. But he wasn't always one of the most recognizable faces on television. He began his career1970se 1970's as a stand-up comedian, and he's continued to perform stand-up in between his various TV gigs and other appearances. In 2015, The Huffington Post reported that Leno headlined an average of 200 stand-up shows in the United States and Canada each year.

That's an awful lot of jokes to tell, but having to deliver monologues and punchlines on national TV every night has helped refine the folksy, aw-shucks humor that Leno has won over comedy fans with. He doesn't take the world too seriously, and he certainly doesn't take himself that seriously. That sense that everything is one big laugh makes his live shows light and entertaining. He's not a comedian who's going to weigh the audience down with dark humor or try to be controversial; instead, he's someone whom the entire room can enjoy, whether you're 18 years old or 80.

This latest tour date follows a planned performance on May 11 at Xcite Center at Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania; tickets for that show are on sale now on the AXS event page. But comedy enthusiasts who aren't near that venue should definitely head to Durham and check out Leno there; audiences haven't quite experienced his jokes until they've heard them in person.

Tickets to see Jay Leno live at Durham Performing Arts Center go on sale Feb. 15 at 12 p.m. local time through the AXS event page. Ticket prices and more information are available on the event page.
