John Mellencamp's album 'Sad Clowns & Hillbillies' hits number 1 on charts

John Mellencamp has had a long career, and it won't be slowing down anytime soon. The Grammy-winning artist released his 23rd full-length album, Sad Clowns & Hillbillies at the end of April, which features contributions from Carlene Carter, June Carter's daughter. Today, it was announced in a press release that the album just reached number one on the Billboard Top Americana Albums Chart.

In addition to this accomplishment, the album also became number three on the Top Rock Albums Chart, which made it his first top five ranking album in 10 years. Sad Clowns & Hillbillies also was number five on the Top Album Sales Chart, and according to the press release, "it also stands out as his fifth consecutive Top 20 album on the Billboard 200 Chart."

Mellencamp has a busy year ahead of him. In February, the rocker announced that he will be making a 27-city stop tour, including performances at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and the revamped Forest Hills Stadium in New York. Take a look at all of the dates and grab tickets for the tour here.
