Johnny Marr announces Call the Comet Tour, shares new video for 'Walk into the Sea'

Johnny Marr is returning to North America as part of his international fall tour in support of his upcoming solo album, Call the Comet. The lengthy batch of concert dates were announced earlier this week, and will take the former Smiths guitarist across North America starting on Sept. 15 at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville, and hits Mexico, Ireland and the U.K. before the fall tour comes to a close on Nov. 18 in Manchester, England. The 39-date trek will take Marr through mostly major U.S. and Canadian markets, in addition to smaller cities like Berkeley, California; Austin, Texas; Buffalo, New York and Athens, Georgia. Also included on the tour is a scheduled stop at Chicago's rock-loaded Riot Fest, whose lineup was announced on Thursday.

Marr also shared a brand new music video for “Walk Into The Sea” on Thursday, one of the latest singles which is set to appear on Call the Comet when the album arrives on June 15. The new video, which Marr co-directed with Mat Bancroft, helps to provide a visual for the rather dark and gloomy rock track, which gradually lightens up (literally) as the song reaches its peak. “Walk Into The Sea” acts as the third track to be shared from Call the Comet prior to its release, following "Hi Hello" and "The Tracers."

"I wouldn't call it a concept record," Marr said in a recent interview on catching some of the darker themes inspired by recent real world events and cultural shifts. "But it's got a unifying theme going through it about the Earth welcoming a different intelligence from the cosmos to save us from our own plight. The title 'Call the Comet' is sort of a conscious plea for a new way."

Tickets for select shows on the North American leg of the tour go on sale to the public starting Friday (June 1) at 10 a.m. local time, and can be found by clicking here.
