With the release of his debut album Ballads 1, Japanese singer/rapper Joji made history as the first Asian artist to top the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Following a recent tour alongside fellow 88rising artists, the singer is heading to selected cities across North American this winter.
Joji's 2019 headlining tour begins on Jan. 29, and it will include stops inside Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre on Feb. 1, San Francisco's Slim's on Feb. 20, and The Crocodile in Seattle on Feb 23. You can check out the entire tour routing below. Tickets are on sale to the general public right now.
To celebrate the announcement, the rapper unveiled an official remix to his single "Slow Dancing in the Dark," which was done by Toronto duo Loud Luxury. The singer recently released an acoustic version of the same song as a single.
Aside from the milestone debut in the hip-hop charts, Ballads 1 debuted at number three on the Billboard Top 200 chart with 57,000 units sold in the first week. The album includes the aforementioned "Slow Dancing in the Dark," which peaked at number seven on the Hot R&B Songs chart, and "Test Drive," which peaked at number 19 on the same chart. This is the follow up to his In Tongues EP. Unlike In Tongues, Ballads 1 found Joji co-producing several songs with producers such as Clams Casino ("Can't Get Over You") and Wedidit collective members D33J and Shlohmo ("Why Am I Still in LA").
