If you’re looking for an event that includes beer, ribs and a performance by Kacey Musgraves, then take a look at Windy City Smokeout, held July 10-12 at the intersection of Grand Avenue and the Chicago River. The country music singer is performing at the culinary and country music celebration in Chicago and headlines the performances on the festival’s first evening. Windy City Smokeout’s other headliners are Chris Young and Lee Brice.
Musgraves is among the performers to watch at the festival. Her next album, Pageant Material, will be released June 23. The much-anticipated 13-track album include the single “Biscuits” and is a follow-up to the singer’s hit album Same Trailer Different Park. That album, released in 2013, received a GRAMMY award for Best Country Album. The Chicago show is part of Musgraves’ summer tour, which also includes shows in Des Moines; Huntington, New York; Jacksonville, Oregon; and the Alaska State Fair in Palmer, Arkansas. For the country music singer’s full tour schedule, check out her website.
Including Musgraves, Windy City Smokeout has a total of 19 musical acts on the schedule. The festival kicks off on July 10 with a performance by country and rock singer and songwriter Shawn Lacy at 3 p.m. Southern rock band A Thousand Horses, whose latest album Southernality was released in June to warm reviews, will perform at 4 p.m., and Musgraves takes the stage at 8 p.m. On July 11, the festival continues with Chicago-based musician Cheyenne Rose kicking things off with a performance at noon. Other performances that day include country music duo Dan + Shay, who garnered plenty of attention with their debut album Where It All Began, Americana and country band Turnpike Troubadours, and Chris Young, whose latest single “I’m Comin’ Over” was released last month and will be included in his new upcoming album.
