Kacey Musgraves is set to play The Fox Theater in Oakland this Saturday, April 25. The show is a stop on her Same Trailer, Different Tour to promote her Same Trailer, Different Park album. Her special guests, The Lone Bellow and Humming House, will open the show, which is being brought to the Bay Area by its incredible local country music station, KRTY.
Musgraves is famous for her classic country sound combined with her—at times—rather controversial lyrics, especially for the country music genre. For example, in "Follow your Arrow," Musgraves sings, “kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls, if that’s something you’re into” along with making references to smoking weed. Musgraves takes issue with the criticism of her lyrics, and has said that she's just singing about things that are a part of her life and impact many people. The singer denies the accusation that she is just trying to push people's buttons. Musgraves has also had great success with her second single, "Blowin Smoke."
Musgraves was born on August 21, 1988, in Golden, Texas. She has been pursuing her dream of being a musician for a great deal of her life. She began writing songs at the age of eight, when she wrote "Notice Me" for her grade school graduation ceremony. The country star began playing the mandolin, and at age 12 she took up the guitar. She started making money in the music business by recording demos at the age of 18.
Musgraves began to hone her performing skills by playing local music festivals, and eventually, she self-released three albums and appeared on the fifth season of "Nashville Star" in 2007, where she took seventh place. Musgraves was finally signed to Mercury Nashville in 2012, where she released her current album, Same Trailer, Different Park, in 2013. The album won the Academy of Country Music award for Album of the Year in April of 2014. Rolling Stone magazine listed "Follow Your Arrow" at No. 39 on their list of the 100 Greatest Country Songs of All Time.
Come out to The Fox Theater on Saturday night. It will be an amazing night of country music, with one of the genre's hottest new stars!
