Rising country star Kacey Musgraves will perform under the canopy at the Brenton Skating Plaza in Des Moines on Saturday, July 11 as part of the Nitefall on the River summer concert series. The show was originally intended for the Simon Estes Amphitheater stage on the riverfront, but with water levels rising, the show was moved. Gates for the event will open at 6 p.m., and the music will kick off at 7 p.m. with a performance by openers Sugar & The Hi-Lows. Tickets for the show are $37.50 in advance and $40 at the gate. The event is open to all ages, and it will take place under the canopy rain or shine.

Golden, Texas native Kacey Musgraves released a number of independent albums before being "discovered" on USA Network's "Nashville Star." Musgraves' seventh place finish earned her enough national exposure that she would eventually sign a major label deal with Mercury Nashville a few years later. Musgraves' 2013 major label debut, Same Trailer Different Park, topped the Billboard Country chart and was certified gold. The album produced the Top 10 singles "Merry Go 'Round," which went platinum, and "Follow Your Arrow," which achieved gold status. Late last month, Musgraves released her second album on Mercury, Pageant Material. The album became the singer's second to top the Billboard Country chart. You can check out the album's first single, "Biscuits," above. The song reached #28 on the Country chart. Kacey Musgraves has been nominated for more than thirty major awards. She has won two Grammy Awards, two Country Music Association Awards, and one Academy of Country Music Award.

On July 4, Musgraves took time out of her current tour, "The Kacey Musgraves Country and Western Rhinestone Review," to perform at Willie Nelson's 4th of July Picnic. Musgraves shared the stage with Nelson, Merle Haggard, Eric Church, Jason Isbell, Asleep at the Wheel, Leon Russell, and a host of others. Her tour will continue on now in the U.S. until November, when Musgraves heads overseas to Europe.

Des Moines has seen an influx of big country shows in the past couple of years, with Musgraves' name being added to a list that includes Eric Church, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Justin Moore, Carrie Underwood, Alabama, Kenny Chesney, and many more. Expect Musgraves to perform not only her own hits, but possibly some of the hit songs that she has written for other stars as well, like Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Gretchen Wilson, and the cast of ABC's hit drama "Nashville."
