Jazz saxophonist extraordinaire Kamasi Washington has announced the upcoming release his first new music since 2015’s The Epic, with an EP titled Harmony of Difference. The six-track album is scheduled for a Sept. 29 release via Young Turks, just in time for his North American fall tour, which he also announced on Monday morning.

Starting Nov. 7 in Milwaukee, WI, Washington’s 26-date North American run will take the west coast Jazz performer across the country and into Canada for what should be his final shows of 2017. The tour will come to a close on Dec. 11 in Memphis, TN. Washington is also scheduled to perform at Jerry Garcia’s 75th Birthday Concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre later this week on Aug. 4.

According to the press release, Harmony of Difference will “explore the philosophical possibilities of the musical technique known as ‘counterpoint,’ which Washington defines as ‘the art of balancing similarity and difference to create harmony between separate melodies.’”

“My hope is that witnessing the beautiful harmony created by merging different musical melodies will help people realize the beauty in our own differences,” Washington also added in Monday’s announcement.

In addition to releasing and touring in support of his own music, Washington has also spent the last few years collaborating with other notable artists including Thundercat, Run The Jewels and Kendrick Lamar.

Ticket presales for the tour will begin Aug. 1 at 10 a.m., with general on sale starting Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets to select shows on the upcoming run can be purchased by clicking here.
