On Nov. 5, rapper Kid Cudi stunned the attendees of his performance at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom by bringing out special guest Kanye West. As Pitchfork noted, West‘s surprise appearance came as something of a shock as he has not performed publicly since Nov. 20, 2016. A reassuringly joyous-looking West and Cudi performed “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt.1,” a song from West’s 2016 album The Life of Pablo.
Although West has kept an atypically low-profile throughout most of 2017, his recent actions suggest that he’s plotting a major return to public life in the near future. In addition to the surprise appearance at Cudi’s performance, Kanye also made a featured appearance on CyHi the Prynce’s new single “Dat Side,” which debuted in late October.
More intriguingly, The Blast discovered that West recently filed a patent for something called the Yeezy Sound. According to the filing, West wants to use the name for a new multimedia streaming platform. Hopefully, Kanye will release a new album to celebrate the launch of his new streaming service.
