The College Dropout

In 2004, he released, The College Dropout, which sold over 2 million copies. After he graduated from high school, he finished one year of art school at Chicago State University. Later on, he moved to New York to pursue his music career.


He won Grammy Awards in 2004 for Best Rap Album for The College Dropout, Best Rap Song for “Jesus Walks” and Best R&B song for "You Don’t Know My Name.”In 2005, he won Grammys for Best Rap Solo Performance for “Gold Digger”, Best Rap Song for “Diamonds from Sierra Leone”, and Best Rap Album for Late Registration. He continued to land even more Grammys for “Stronger”, “Good Life” and “Run this town.”

He was hired by Jay-Z to produce songs

Jay-Z hired Kanye to produce songs for his BluePrint album. The album managed to sell over 400,000 copies within just the first week. He continued to produce for big names in the music industry including Beyonce and Ludacris.

He married Kim Kardashian

There was no question that the pair got married in celebrity style. The couple held an elaborate rehearsal dinner Versailles which is located right outside of Paris. The official wedding ceremony took place in Florence, Italy on May 24, 2014 at Forte di Belvedere. As Kardashian walked down the aisle, the attendees enjoyed a song by Andrea Bocelli.

When he lost his mother

On November 10, 2007, Kanye West lost his mother due to cosmetic surgery. After the funeral, he held a concert where he dedicated his performance of “Hey Mama” to his late mother.
