Kelly Clarkson comes in like a 'Wrecking Ball' onstage
Kevin Robbins

Kelly Clarkson, the sometimes-country but always-pop powerhouse, has been spinning a web of fan-requested covers since her Stronger days and continues with her latest Piece by Piece Tour. The most-recent, soul-crushing performance crashed the stage during her show in Indianapolis this week. Stripping away the Miley Cyrus ballad from pop-bop texture into a more emotional moment, Clarkson (once again) demonstrated her musical proclivity for dynamic vocals and complexly layered live deliveries. "I never meant to start a war. I just wanted you to let me in," she belts in one of the most chill-inducing moments of her career (ever).

Fans can check out the clip, filmed from a fan's phone, above.

Clarkson's recent album Piece by Piece initially earned a wide-range of reviews, from lukewarm to outright sizzling, and sees the original "American Idol" champ dabbling in EDM, R&B and her signature fist-pumping anthems ("The Heartbeat Song," "Invincible," "Nostalgic"). Of course, despite tepid sales (at best), it is her live concerts that are the real treat; most cases, she sounds even better than she does on record. On her latest tour, she has already covered such pop hits as 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye," Taylor Swift's ubiquitous "Blank Space," Rihanna's "Stay," Nick Jonas' "Jealous" and Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)," among countless others. You can grab Piece by Piece on Apple Music.

"The Sing-Off" season three winners Pentatonix, an a capella five-piece with Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, have gone on to have a platinum-selling record and a Grammy—taking home the trophy this year for their gliding Daft Punk track, in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category.
