Kelly Clarkson is famed for her country music twang, while Rihanna soared to fame with her pop princess power. Now, Clarkson has dared to cover Rihanna's "Love On The Brain," and her blend of country with the "Love" lyrics has produced musical magic.
The powerful performance by Kelly, 34, occurred when she staged a Facebook Live session for her fans on Friday, reported ET. The country crooner gave her fans something to celebrate when she unveiled a variety of live covers that varied from Coldplay's "Fix You" to Florence and the Machine's "Shake It Out." Clarkson also touched on more familiar ground with her rendition of the Dixie Chicks' "Top of the World."
Some singers use Facebook Live sessions to re-tread previous interviews or re-hash old songs. But not Kelly, who chose to cover Rihanna and provide a unique treat in her rendition. The former "American Idol" winner turned superstar-singer also graciously took the time to express her own love on the brain for Rihanna.
"I just love this song, @rihanna kills it! #LoveOnTheBrain," tweeted Clarkson.
As for bells and whistles (or a full band) to accompany her cover, Kelly had no need. Her bare-bones rendition of "Love On The Brain" relied on keyboard and acoustic guitar. In addition, the visuals show Clarkson in her rehearsal outfit, relaxed with her accompanists as she belts out the cover.
For those longing to listen to Clarkson cover other songs, the country music magician has them on her website. There's the Beatles, Etta James, and even Radiohead. But as indicated by the comments for her "Love On The Brain" cover, there's something very special about the way that it weaves Rihanna with Kelly.
"I'm in heaven!" summed up one fan in the YouTube comment section.
"Kelly, you rock babe!" gushed another.
