Kelsea Ballerini debuted her new song “Legends” live at the 2017 CMT Awards in Nashville on Wednesday (June 7). A song about a legendary love story, “Legends” is one of the fist songs Ballerini wrote for her new album, according to a statement on her website. Wearing a dove gray dress and with her feet bare, Ballerini took the stage to sing the wistful ballad about an epic love story.
The 23-year-old singer wrote “Legends” about a lost love, according to a statement she made to Rolling Stone Country. Ballerini said, "I wrote it from the perspective of a breakup. Now I'm in such a different place in my life that, to me at least, it's a love song about a love that you look back on that doesn't even necessarily have to end. I hope my fans hear it as a letter to them but also they hear their own love story in it too."
Ballerini, who was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy, is the first solo artist to score a Number One hit on the country charts with her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It" since Carrie Underwood.
Ballerini was nominated for CMT Awards for Best Female Video of the Year (“Peter Pan”) and Social Media Superstar. The CMT Awards preceded Nashville's annual CMA Music Festival, which she will play tonight (June 9). She and Thomas Rhett will co-host the CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock TV special, airing on ABC on Aug. 16.
The busy young singer is currently touring with Lady Antebellum on their “You Look Good” tour. The complete list of events in on the Kelsea Ballerini website. "Legends" is available on iTunes and can be streamed at Spotify.
