David Beckham’s latest philanthropy in the States will be a new soccer turf field in the heart of Los Angeles.
The LA Galaxy, David Beckham and Herbalife Nutrition will open a refurbished community soccer field in Downtown Los Angeles, located at The Salvation Army Red Shield Youth and Community Center (1532 West 11th Street, Los Angeles, CA). The unveiling is set to be at 11 a.m. on March 1, the day before the Galaxy’s 2019 MLS home opener against the Chicago Fire at Dignity Health Sports Park (tickets).
Funded by the LA Galaxy Foundation, David Beckham, Herbalife Nutrition and AEG, the field will serve 2,000 of Los Angeles’ youths monthly through programs and clinics.
Honoring Beckham and his contribution to the sport in the U.S., there will be a mural dedicated to recognize Beckham’s time at the Galaxy done by LA-based artist Mark Paul Deren. In addition to the unveiling of his statue at the Galaxy home opener, Beckham will be inducted to the LA Galaxy Ring of Honor — joining Cobi Jones, Mauricio Cienfuegos, and Doug Hamilton.
Beckham helped the Galaxy win consecutive Supporters’ Shields and MLS Cup championships in 2011 and 2012. He tallied 18 goals and 40 assists in 98 appearances for the Galaxy.
