The LA Galaxy has partnered with Copia, a food recovery company, to use the excess food on game days and donate them to those in need in the community of Los Angeles — making them the first in Major League Soccer to partner with Copia.
Through this initiative, the Galaxy have donated over 500 pounds of food using the surplus after matches at Dignity Health Sports Park. Copia distributes the food to local nonprofits which benefit those facing food insecurity. Companies have used Copia’s technology and services to not only deal with the issue of food waste but also ensure that it goes to those who need it the most in local communities.
The partnership with Copia is the latest installment of the Galaxy’s Protect the Pitch initiative — an effort by the club to be more environmentally sustainable. The Galaxy was nominated for TheStadiumBusiness Awards this year for the Sustainability & Community Award for the Protect the Pitch initiative.
