Lady Gaga has scored her fourth UK chart-topping album with the critically-acclaimed A Star Is Born soundtrack, Official Charts reports. Gaga co-produced and co-wrote several of the songs on the album’s soundtrack with the film’s director, co-writer and her co-star, Bradley Cooper. Paul “DJWS” Blair, Dave Cobb, Nick Monson, Lukas Nelson, Brian Newman, Mark Nilan Jr. and Benjamin Rice share producing credits.
The soundtrack was released on Oct. 5, the same day as the “A Star Is Born” film made its widespread U.S. theatrical release. Gaga preempted the album’s release by dropping the single “Shallow” and its music video on Sept. 27, when the movie premiered in London. The song is performed by Gaga and Cooper as a duet in the film and is one of the movie’s main love songs. Gaga dropped an audio version of another of the movie’s power ballads, “I’ll Never Love Again,” on Oct. 8 via YouTube along with the official music video for a third song “Look What I Found.”
Cooper also earns a milestone with the UK chart achievement, in scoring his first-ever UK No. 1 album. Gaga’s previous UK No. 1 albums include The Fame (2009), Born This Way (2011) and Artpop (2013).
“Shallow” is currently No. 6 on the UK Singles chart and “I’ll Never Love Again” is currently at No. 35. (Both on the chart dated Oct. 18). Gaga and A Star Is Born notably kept Twenty One Pilots’ third studio album Trench, from debuting at No. 1. It sits just under the soundtrack at No. 2.
A Star Is Born soundtrack is also vying against Trench for the top position on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. Stay tuned to AXS for Lady Gaga and “A Star Is Born” updates.
