Lady Gaga wins Best Actress as 'A Star Is Born' snags several NBR Awards

Lady Gaga picked up a Best Actress of the Year award for her leading role in "A Star Is Born" as the National Board of Review announced award-winning 2018 films. Gaga’s co-star, director and A Star Is Born soundtrack co-producer-co-writer Bradley Cooper won Best Director of the Year.

“A Star Is Born” notably made NBR’s Top Films list for 2018 and Sam Elliott, who played Cooper’s character Jackson Maine’s brother, won Best Supporting Actor.

Accolades and pending nominations are pouring in for Gaga, Cooper and “A Star Is Born” as Golden Globe and Oscar Buzz continues to rise for the film. Gaga’s stunning feature film debut performance was also fell in ninth place in Time’s Critics Choice picks for The 10 Best Movie Performances of 2018. The film, as a whole, took seventh place in Time’s The 10 Best Movies of 2018 list.

Other pending critics nominations for Gaga, Cooper and “A Star Is Born” include the Detroit Film Critics Society (ceremony Dec. 3), the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association (ceremony Dec. 3) and the Satellite Awards (ceremony Feb. 17).

Gaga previously won a Golden Globe Award in 2016 for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her riveting portrayal of The Countess in “American Horror Story: Hotel.” She was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Till It Happens to You,” also in 2016.

“A Star Is Born” is highly-expected to receive Oscar and/or Golden Globe Award nominations in 2019, with the film’s main Cooper/Gaga duet “Shallow” expected to get a Best Original Song Oscar nod.

“Shallow” helped Gaga and Cooper garner a UK chart double as the song topped the UK Singles chart and the album topped the UK Albums chart.  The album also topped the Billboard 200 chart here in the U.S. The music video for the song (embedded above) has garnered over 130 million views since it posted on YouTube on Sept. 27.

Gaga picked up a Best Original Song – Feature Film Hollywood Music in Media Award for “Shallow” as one of the song’s co-writers, along with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. The soundtrack was nominated for Soundtrack Album (won by “Black Panther”) and the film won for Outstanding Music Supervision Film (for Julianne Jordan and Julia Michaels).

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born” 2018 remake follows Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson’s 1976 film of the same name, among other remakes of the original 1937 classic. Bradley Cooper notably entered music charts in multiple countries for the first time with his “A Star Is Born” soundtrack recording of “Shallow.”
