Lauren Daigle has claimed an impressive chart feat by topping all five of Billboard’s main Christian charts simultaneously for the week dated Sept. 22, Billboard reports. Daigle is notably the first artist in music history to score this achievement.
The milestone chart coup comes in the wake of the Louisiana native singer-songwriter’s newly-released third studio album Look Up Child, which currently claims the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s U.S. Christian Albums chart and notably debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Daigle also currently rules the top position on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs, Christian Airplay, Christian Streaming Songs and Christian Digital Song Sales charts with the album’s smoldering lead single “You Say.”
Daigle is understandably excited by the news and told Billboard “We’re all still pinching ourselves …” She also took to Twitter to express her gratitude to her fans saying, “This is me FREAKING OUT! Why? Because of how incredibly grateful I am for the support all of you have shown for Look Up Child! Thank you!! …” You can see Lauren’s cute “reaction” photo and read her entire post below.
It’s also worth noting Rolling Stone pointed out Daigle “is bigger than Drake and Ariana Grande” this week, with her album hitting higher than theirs on the Billboard 200, having debuted at No. 3 moving 115,000 equivalent album units with 103,000 of those being traditional album sales. Paul McCartney leads the chart again with Egypt Station bumping Eminem’s Kamikaze out of its debut top spot down to No. 2 over Daigle. Stereogum dubs Daigle “the Christian Adele” in its album review and AXS says Daigle makes her listeners’ “traditional thinking of what Christian music should sound like begin to melt away like ice cream on a sultry day.”
Look Up Child follows Lauren Daigle’s Grammy-nominated 2015 debut album How Can It Be. Daigle is touring to support the album on the Look Up Child Tour, which includes a stop at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Oct. 7 (Tickets). Stay tuned to AXS for more on Lauren Daigle.
