As the Cleveland Cavaliers go through a roller-coasted playoff run, their star player received a bit of exciting personal news. LeBron James has been selected as the next cover athlete for NBA 2K19, the popular basketball video game.
The 2K19 release has special meaning, as it is the 20th-anniversary edition of the gaming franchise. LeBron is no stranger to the game, either, as he was also the cover athlete on NBA 2K14.
According to LeBron, the distinction is an honor, as he has played the game since his youth.
“We were able to do something really unique for the cover that represents everything that drives me and inspires me – from my family to where I come from and words I live by,” he said.
The game is scheduled for release on Sept. 7, and there are several perks available to gamers who buy the Anniversary Edition. They will receive special LeBron-themed digital bonuses like LeBron MyCOURT design, 50,000 MyTEAM points, King's Collection - Nike LeBron apparel and 25 pairs of LeBron footwear, and more.
Former Cavalier Kyrie Irving was on the cover of NBA 2K18. He was initially pictured on the cover in a Cavaliers uniform, but subsequent editions ran with the point guard in his Boston Celtics gear.
