Lights designs the 2018 We Were Here Tour

Drake and Justin Bieber may be Canada’s best musical imports, but no one should overlook Lights.

Hailing from Drake’s stomping grounds of Toronto, Lights (b. Valerie Anne Poxleitner) began her career in 2006. To use her stage name, she legally changed her name to prevent copyright infringements as their was already a band that claimed the name “Lights.” Her first music video followed later in the year, “February Air,” but the deal for recording and shooting the single was never completed.

Her career didn’t get off the ground until 2008, when she embarked on the Great Lakes to support her self-titled debut Ep and her new single, “Drive My Soul.” The tour was a hit, and the later single began to make headway on the Canadian charts, topping out at No. 18 on that country’s Hot 100.

Lights debut full-length LP followed in 2009, The Listening, which set the stage for a career that has seen her rise to superstar status in her native Canada. Now, Lights is looking to capture that same lofty status here in the States, embarking on the We Were Here Tour that begins in February in Seattle. Joining here one some dates will be Chase Atlantic, Dear Rouge, and DCF.
