For anyone who is looking for a post-breakout song, Ariana Grande may have just provided the perfect tune.
Grande, who has since split from former fiancee Pete Davidson and who is mourning the loss of her previous ex, Mac Miller, surprised her fans with the release of her latest single, “thank u, next.” The timing of the release was perfect, as, according to Pitchfork, Grande released the single just 30 minutes prior to the airing of “Saturday Night Live” on Nov. 4.
Now, Grande didn’t say what the song meant, but judging from the lyrics, “thank u, next” is meant to make peace with past loved ones who she has since sailed on from The lyrics in “thank u, next” aren't cold or mean, but a spirited call for gratefulness for the experience with a sense of closure and permission to move on.
It’s important to note that “thank u, next” is not part of the Sweetener LP, but rather, it’s a standalone single. Maybe it’s a tease at her next album? Fans will just have to wait and find out. In the meantime, take a listen to “thank u, next” above.
