"Havana" and "OMG" are songs from Cabello's upcoming solo album, The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving. Both new tunes follow lead single "Crying in the Club" and the ballad "I Have Questions." On all fronts, from production to songwriting and guest features, Camila pulls out all the stops.
Cabello penned "Havana" with Pharrell Williams, Starrah, Ali Tamposi, Andrew Watt and Young Thug while Post Malone producer Frank Dukes was behind the console. From the two songs out, this one feels like a more spirited release, especially considering Camila was born in Cuba. Piano and hip-hop beats back Camila longing for her homeland. "Half of my heart is in Havana," she sings. Some Latin flavor later seeps in thanks to the horn section. Young Thug's guest verse sort of disconnects Camila from those "Havana" nights, but for the most part, this slinky slice of pop feels like paradise in her hands.
"OMG" was written by Cabello, Quavo, Charli XCX and production duo Stargate. Trap beats and flute back Camila as she goes full Migos with excitement over a guy. "My God, you look good today / Whoop!" Cabello sings. Quavo is in his element and comes through with a reliably garbled verse. "OMG" is a sign of the times, but when compared with "Havana," it doesn't quite stack up.
"Havana" and "OMG" are now available on iTunes and Apple Music. Cabello's The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving. album will be released on Sept. 22.
