Elton John has recorded a pair of cover songs for the Spotify Singles. The iconic British pop-rocker has released a cover of Khalid's 2017 single “Young, Dumb and Broke,” as well as a live rendition of his own 1974 single “Benny and the Jets" as part of the popular streaming series.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer unveiled the news on Dec. 12 via a Facebook update as he wraps up the remaining 2018 dates on the North American leg of his massive Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The iconic British rocker recorded the songs earlier this year, during his final residency in Las Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which wrapped up May 17.
The “Rocket Man” hitmaker re-imagines “Young, Dumb and Broke” as a slow ballad, opening his rendition with melodic piano flourishes. The multi-platinum seller recruits Khalid to supply backing harmony on the chorus, as the pair sing, “While we're young dumb/Young, young dumb and broke.”
