Kali Uchis has a new single out, and it arrived on Friday with a little help from her friends in Tyler, The Creator and funk legend/bassist Bootsy Collins. Titled “After The Storm,” the smooth new song is the young singer’s first new track since the release of "Nuestro Planeta," back in the fall. The arrival of “After The Storm,” which can be heard above via the audio-only video, comes at a perfect time, with Uchis getting ready to head out on tour to support Lana Del Rey for select dates on her North American LA to the Moon tour.
Fans who have been following Uchis’ blossoming career up until this point will remember that the 23-year-old singer has appeared as a featured guest on numerous Tyler, The Creator tracks over the past few years. The first time the two recording artists worked together was on Tyler’s 2015 single "F**king Young / Perfect," and again more recently on "See You Again," which was the fourth single from his 2017 Flower Boy LP. Perhaps Tyler was just returning the favor this time around, as his hip-hop lines starting around the song’s 1:52 minute mark balance out perfectly with Kali’s lovely and optimistically-themed singing in this song.
The track does have a slightly pop-esque funk element to it, which is fueled by the subtle appearances by Parliament-Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins’ at the beginning, and throughout the song.
The Grammy-nominated singer continues to make her mark on the mainstream landscape with this new single, which will presumably appear on her full-length follow up to her 2015 Por Vida EP. She’s scheduled to start touring with Lana Del Rey on Jan. 15 in Toronto, and will remain on as the support act until Feb. 16 with a show at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
