Listen: Lucius share cover of 'Christmas Time Is Here' in memory of Richard Swift

Lucius has recorded and shared a brand new cover of the “Peanuts” cartoon holiday classic, “Christmas Time Is Here.” The seasonal new single will be released physically as a 7” single as part of the Fug Yep Soundation, a series of record releases in memoriam to benefit late producer and rock performer Richard Swift. Swift died earlier this year back on July 3 at the age of just 41. In addition to collaborating with a mix of well-known rock artists throughout his career, Swift was also a member of The Shins and Black Keys’ live bands.

Swift had actually produced, recorded and mixed Lucius’ new holiday recording, which can be heard in the audio-only video above. The romantic and stripped-down recording sticks to keep the instrumentation at a minimum, with the angelic voices of singers Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig leading the way in perfect tandem - as usual. There’s certainly an argument to make for the unnecessary reissuing of the same holiday songs every fall and winter, but it’s nice to hear one of the lesser-known tunes make an appearance in such a loving way.

According to the album’s pre-order page, proceeds from Fug Yep Soundation single sales will directly support the Swift family, as well as a pair of two fantastic music-based non-profit organizations, MusiCares and Music Support UK.

A planned tribute concert in memory of Swift will take place at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, New York on Dec. 9, with scheduled performances by  Nathaniel RateliffHamilton LeithauserMarco BeneventoSam Cohen, My Morning Jacket's Patrick Hallahan and Tom Blankenship and many more. Tickets for the one-night event go on sale this Friday, Nov. 9, and can be purchased by clicking here. All proceeds from the show will also be going to benefit the Richard Swift Memorial Fund, which has raised up to $125,000 to help Richard’s family pay off his medical bills.

Lucius are currently scheduled to perform at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado with Lord Huron next spring on May 14
