In 2017, Weezer released brand-new music with their Pacific Daydream album and they have announced their fifth album, The Black Album, for a 2018 release. However, when Rivers Cuomo is not working with Weezer, he has other projects on the side including a Japanese language album released in 2013 with Scott Murphy of Allister called Scott & Rivers to go along with three solo albums released from 2007-2008 titled Alone, Alone II and Alone III.

Today, Rivers Cuomo surprised his fans with another solo single titled "Medicine for Melancholy." This comes just a few days after Cuomo performed a solo acoustic concert in Los Angeles and just two months before the release of The Black Album with Weezer.

It is an interesting song, with Cuomo's talent as a songwriter on full display in the verses but with a wordless chorus, allowing his music to tell the story there. While Weezer has the entire '90s garage style sound to their music, this is a more laid back and musically inspired song by Cuomo, making fans wonder if he is going to branch out with more solo songs in the future.

For now, Cuomo is working with Weezer and the band has a tour lined up with their upcoming release. Weezer and the Pixies will hit the road together this summer and have a concert on July 31 in Greenwood Village, CO. AXS has tickets available for that show (buy tickets here).
