Listen: St. Lucia releases singles, ‘A Brighter Love’ and ‘Paradise is Waiting’
St. Lucia/Vevo

St. Lucia is back. The artistic persona of New York-based guitarist/singer/producer Jean-Philip Grobler and his band released a new pair of singles on Friday morning with “A Brighter Love” and “Paradise is Waiting.” The two new tracks are the first from the synth-rock band since their sophomore Matter LP arrived back in January of 2016, and will presumably help to kickstart their upcoming album campaign, which wasn't given a title or release date as of Friday.

“‘Paradise is Waiting’ and ‘A Brighter Love’ couldn’t be more different, but we’re so proud of them both,” the band posted to their Facebook page on Friday morning. “It was really hard to choose, but we felt like these two best represent the extremes of our new music. ‘Paradise’ might be the most epic thing we’ve ever done, and ‘A Brighter Love’ is probably the most sparse. We love them both and we hope you will too! Also a massive thank you to everyone who helped bring these to life.”

The two new tracks are refreshingly brilliant, and really returns Grobler and the band to their place as real tastemakers within the indie-pop scene coming out of New York’s club circuit. “Brighter Love” takes its leisurely time to open up and reach full running speed, but definitely channels those loose and light feelings of summer with its easy going tempo and lush instrumental vibe. It almost sounds like a song left off their trop-pop friendly 2013 debut When the Night. “Paradise is Waiting” on the other hand, is much more of a throwback to the piano riff-driven hits of the 1990s. The band is joined in the recording by a gospel choir to open up the song’s anthemic chorus, filling the listener with inspirational and feel-good vibes at a time where they are very much needed

The band also announced their 2018 concert plans on Friday, which begin tomorrow (June 23) in Denver as part of the Westword Music Showcase at Golden Triangle with act like Galantis and Bonobo. Their own North American headlining tour will begin on Sept. 21-22 with a pair of hometown shows at New York City’s newly opened Pier 17, followed by a run of concerts across the U.S. and Canada throughout October and November. Tickets for select shows on the upcoming tour, which includes support from Now, NowThe Night Game and Arkells, will be going on sale beginning next Friday (June 29) at 10 a.m. local time, and can be purchased by clicking here.
