Earlier this month, Brazilian singer-songwriter Alexia Bomtempo released “I Thought About You,” the first single from her forthcoming third studio album, Chasing Storms and Stars. The track is a wistful reflection on how easy it is to slip back into the emotional reality of a painful breakup. Befitting Bomtempo’s diverse set of musical influences, the song skillfully combines elements of pop, blues and adult contemporary with a noticeable undercurrent of South American rhythm. By combing such potent lyrics and captivating song craft, Bomtempo has created a song that both heartbreaking and beautiful.
In order to create her emotionally resonant and sonically evocative new record, Bomtempo recruited a slew of impressive collaborators. Her husband, producer Jake Owen, helped her compose the album. Legendary Robert Plant and Patty Griffin engineer David Boyle oversaw the album’s production. Red Hot Chili Peppers percussionist Mauro Refosco and Brandon Flowers drummer Darren A. Beckett also enlisted to contribute to the LP. As such, Chasing Storms promises to be one of the fall season’s most compelling new albums.
Chasing Storms and Stars is due out Sept. 22.
