On Nov. 29, the Los Angeles Lakers will give all fans in attendance a pair of Chick Hearn socks to commemorate his status as a legendary broadcaster. Following the promotion, the Lakers will take on the Golden State Warriors in a game that will be televised on NBA TV.
Hearn, a Lakers’ fixture, announced 3,338 consecutive Lakers games. The streak began during the 1965 season.
In addition to serving as a Lakers legend, Hearn also had his broadcasts simulcast on both TV and radio–one of the last announcers to do so. During his streak, most teams moved to separate teams for radio and TV.
Hearn won the Gowdy Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, as well. He also has a bronze statue that stands outside the Staples Center in Star Plaza.
