The Louis Armstrong Wonder World festival has announced the date and location of their fifth annual event. The festival will take place at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York City on Saturday, July 21. Rap superstar Action Bronson and brass band The Soul Rebels will both play the event with more band announcements coming.
While Louis Armstrong was born and raised in New Orleans (the hometown of The Soul Rebels), he lived for 30 years in Queens, New York, and the event takes place where he spent so many years of his professional life. The best news of all is that the concert itself is free, although AXS does have VIP tickets for sale to the event (buy tickets here).
The Louis Armstrong's Wonder World festival is hosted by the Kupferberg Center for the Arts, and over its past four years has invited musicians that were influenced by Armstrong's musical legacy. Action Bronson was actually born in Queens, and also happens to be a gourmet chef. He released his most recent album, Blue Chips 7000, in 2017.
Of course, the Soul Rebels have the New Orleans sound that Armstrong specialized in. The eight-piece brass band has elements of hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul, pop and rock music, all in the brass band format.
