Mac DeMarco creates record label, announces first ever solo tour

Indie rock guitarist and singer Mac DeMarco has announced his first ever batch of solo tour dates set for later this year towards the latter end of the fall. The run of U.S. shows have been branded the Mac DeMarco Purple Bobcat Next to River Solo Tour, and is scheduled to begin in Long Beach, California on Nov. 3 with his recently announced appearance at Tropicalia Festival.

The tour is set to feature just Mac on stage doing his weird but fun style of chill-pop in mostly theaters throughout the month of November before coming to a close on Dec. 3. The newly announced solo run will follow his ongoing North American tour, which continues this weekend with a gig at San Francisco’s Outside Lands in addition to four straight sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom on Aug. 22-25. DeMarco’s upcoming tour schedule also includes a pair of notable upcoming performances at Philadelphia’s The Mann Center on Sept. 4, and Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre a few nights later on Sept. 10.

In addition to sharing the dates for his ongoing tour schedule on Wednesday, DeMarco also announced that after three full-length albums and a handful of mini-LPs, mixtapes and EPs, the Canadian musician will be leaving his home at Captured Tracks to start his own label, named Mac’s Record Label. According to the announcement, the music released through the new label will be distributed globally by Caroline.

"Hi, it's Mac. We're starting a record label; it's called 'Mac's Record Label,’” the popular musician said in a statement about his new business move. “My friend Jen who plays drums in The Courtneys gave me the name.”

Mac didn’t reveal if there would be any fresh music to be released through his new venture in the coming months, but fans can purchase tickets to select shows as part of the newly announced solo run when they go on sale this Friday, and can be found by clicking here.
