Mac DeMarco extends tour in support of 'This Old Dog'
Captured Tracks

After a pair of highly-anticipated performances at Coachella, Mac DeMarco will spend the rest of the year delivering the sounds of his new albumThis Old Dog to fans on a North America and Europe tour, which includes a May 14 stop at Detroit, Michigan's Royal Oak Music Theatre.

The indie singer-songwriter recently revealed the album's title track (which he's called his favorite off the project) and a corresponding, self-directed visual that depicts normal city dwellers in dog masks, a concept Demarco poetically described in a press release: “A devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love"—wait, actually, it turns out that's the plot synopsis of a recent sappy canine film (“Mac was intentionally quoting from the A Dog’s Purpose synopsis. He thought that was clear, however, there was a miscommunication in how this was interpreted by his team,” a representative later explained).

DeMarco recently described This Old Dog, his third full-length, as more complete than past efforts in an interview with NME: “It’s definitely one of those things where the album makes more sense as a whole, a full thing rather than single, single, single." He adds, “I think it’s a little more personal, about my family and the way my life is going right now. There’s a lot of substance on it. I’ve been looking at things under a more mature microscope. Being alive is really crazy, and the world is a really strange place.”

This Old Dog, his first full-length since 2014’s critically-acclaimed Salad Days, is due out on May 5 via Captured Tracks. In 2015, he released the mini-LP Another One , which was led by the track "The Way You'd Love Her." Check out DeMarco's moving visual for "This Old Dog" up top and scan the tour dates below.
