MAX is a man that has a strong love for his hometown of New York City.
That love is so strong that he decided to make a song and video dedicated to “all the amazing New Yorkers and people who call New York home,” which is how he described the track on his website. Featuring Joey Bada$$, who himself is a native New Yorker (Brooklyn in the house!), MAX wanted to do something different for his dedication single to the Big Apple.
Now, granted, there have been many New York singers who have felt the need to create a song showing their appreciation to the concrete jungle. From Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York,” which is still regarded as the unofficial “anthem” of the city, to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys beautiful “Empire State of Mind,” there is perhaps no other city in the nation, heck, the world, that has gotten the red carpet treatment from so many of its homegrown stars.
That’s why MAX (born Max Schneider in Manhattan), wanted to do something different with “Still New York.” So, he asked native New Yorkers, from the famous to the ordinary, to film themselves singing the lyrics to the song, which was then mashed up to create an feel-good, modern soundtrack to America’s largest and most famous town.
It’s a single that will stir happy emotions, whether one lives there or not, and the sound makes for the perfect summer groove. One can bet that MAX will include “Still New York” on his upcoming tour, House of Divine, and it’ll be a late summer road trip that should break MAX out to a brand new legion of fans.
