Michael McDonald is bringing his legendary voice and lengthy catalog of hits to Golden Nugget Lake Charles in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Friday, Feb. 22. Fans can get tickets to the newly announced concert now, here on AXS.
No one can discuss the pop-rock genre without mentioning McDonald, who has left his mark in that crossover space. He rose to prominence as a member of not one, but two popular groups before finding success as a solo artist. His first solo album, If That's What It Takes, arrived in 1982 and McDonald has been enthralling audiences on his own for more than three decades. Not many artists have that kind of staying power, but not many singers have the distinctive voice of Michael McDonald, whose songs are instantly recognizable.
As a member of The Doobie Brothers, McDonald recorded classic rock hits like "What A Fool Believes", which earned himself and Kenny Loggins the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. He was also a member of Steely Dan, as part of their touring band and a background vocalist. McDonald even rejoined the band for their tour in 2006, where he not only opened for them but then joined them for their headlining set!
But he's not just playing his old favorites. In 2017, McDonald released Wide Open, his first album in 17 years; you can watch the album trailer by playing the video above. The record includes the song "Hail Mary" which shows McDonald still has the same amazing vocal ability he displayed with those bands.
Now he's bringing songs both old and new to Golden Nugget Lake Charles. Audiences shouldn't miss the opportunity to hear one of music's most distinctive vocalists live, and to appreciate not only the songs he contributed to pop-rock history, but hear how his music has continued to evolve decades later. McDonald is just as good as he was in his heyday, if not even better, and AXS has fans' tickets to his performance at this fantastic casino venue.
