The Colorado Rockies will be celebrating Latin culture when they host the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Coors Field. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Rockies t-shirt with "Los Rockies" on it. There will also be Latin music entertainment as part of the pregame Latin cultural celebrations.
The Rockies are putting together quite the win streak at the moment as they have won six straight games following their 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Latin American Carlos Gonzalez hit two home runs and drove in four runs batted in. The Rockies now lead the St. Louis Cardinals by three and a half games for the second wildcard spot in the National League.
Speaking of winning streaks, there is no one hotter at the moment than the Cleveland Indians. On Tuesday, the Indians won their 20th straight game, which tied an American League record. Cleveland beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 thanks to a complete game shutout by Corey Kluber. The Oakland Athletics also had a 20 game winning streak in 2002.
Around MLB, Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts became the first Red Sox player in franchise history to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in consecutive seasons. Betts now has 21 home runs and 24 stolen bases after hitting 31 home runs and 26 stolen bases last year. The Red Sox beat the Athletics 11-1.
Also, the Minnesota Twins made Major League Baseball history on Tuesday by becoming the first team ever to hit a home run in each of the first seven innings in a 16-0 win over the Padres. Brian Dozier hit a home run in the first inning. Jorge Polanco hit a home run in the second inning. Jason Castro hit home runs in the third inning and fifth inning. Eddie Rosario hit a home run in the fourth inning. Eduardo Escobar hit a home run in the sixth inning and Kennys Vargas hit a home run in the seventh inning.
