The fourth season of New Japan Pro Wrestling is slated to air on AXS TV on Friday nights in 2018.
Featured events in the 2018 pro wrestling schedule for the promotion include Wrestle Kingdom 12, New Beginning Sapporo and New Beginning Osaka. The year kicks off with a star-studded spectacular, as Wrestle Kingdom 12 airs on Jan. 6 beginning at 8 p.m. in the east.
Legendary commentators Jim Ross and Josh Barnett will be manning the booth for the show, as well as for the rest of New Japan Pro Wrestling's events in the new year. Barnett, a former UFC champion and pro wrestler, continues on in the same commentary role he's held since 2015. The 40-year-old made a major impact in the MMA community, winning the UFC's heavyweight title in 2002.
Since his last UFC start in 2016, he has slowly transitioned to pro wrestling. With New Japan Pro Wrestling, he's able to show off his high-level catch wrestling style -- while jumping right in to the commentary booth when he's not competing. It's a perfect situation for him.
As for Ross, he has been the voice of New Japan Pro Wrestling since 2016. The iconic 65-year-old has been involved in the wrestling industry for over 30 years, including a historic run as lead play-by-play man for the WWE in the '90s and sporadically in the 2000s. He is a WWE Hall of Fame broadcaster.
Officially, New Japan Pro Wrestling's weekly episodic schedule begins Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. EST, with a star-studded Friday night spectacular. New Beginning Sapporo and New Beginning Osaka are expected to go down during the first quarter of 2018.
