Denver music weekend picks Aug. 1-3: Vans Warped Tour, Kacey Musgraves

The 2014 Underground Music Showcase is in the books, but the live music in Denver isn’t slowing down. If you’re trying to decide among the many great live shows in the Mile High this weekend (and you weren’t quick enough to get tickets for the now-sold-out Barenaked Ladies or Amos Lee shows), here are a few suggestions to help you narrow the search.

Friday, August 1

Denver Funk act Rowdy Shadehouse will be headlining a show Friday night at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E. Colfax in Denver. Opening acts include Eldren and Champagne Charlie. Denver-via-Nashville alternative rockers Archive Nights will headline at the Hi-Dive, 7 S. Broadway in Denver. Opening the show are The Patient Zeros, Walter and Lucida Tela. Saturday, August 2

Rising country star (and recent Grammy winner) Kacey Musgraves is making a tour stop at the Ogden Theatre, 935 E. Colfax in Denver. Also performing are John and Jacob. Tickets are $22-$25, available from AXS.com. Service charges apply. Doors at 7:00 p.m.; show starts at 8:00. Ages 16+.

Local punk act Reno Divorce will play a headlining show at the Oriental Theater, 4335 W. 44th Ave. in Denver, along with The Federalists and La Cucarachas. Tickets are $8 each, available through the Oriental Theater; service charge may apply. Doors at 8:00 p.m.; show starts at 9:00. Ages 18+.

Sunday, August 3

Vans Warped Tour is finishing out its annual trek with its final stop of the summer in Denver, setting up shop this Sunday at Sports Authority Field. The event features dozens of bands in genres that include rock, punk, emo, ska, rap, metal, hardcore and others. Among the featured acts this year are We the Kings, Anberlin, Falling In Reverse, Mayday Parade, Less Than Jake and The Summer Set, along with Colorado’s own Breathe Carolina and Air Dubai. Tickets are $37 each, available from Ticketmaster; service charges apply. Music starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes all day. All ages.*
