Singer Ed Sheeran is known for his colorful tattoo sleeve. He seems to have a story to tell and this is how the artist shares them. He sat down recently with "92.3 Now’s" Ty Bentli backstage at the City Winery in New York City recently to share the story behind his tattoos. "Just Jared Jr." posted the interview on April 7, as the two discuss the meaning behind his fascinating ink.
It’s all memories of what’s happened in my career so far. It might look like gibberish to you.”
The 22-year-old singer got his first tattoo when he was 18 and has been inking it up ever since. Supposedly, he celebrates his accomplishments by getting tattoos in some of the cities that he visits while on tour. Sheeran now has a total of 27 tattoos.
The first one he mentioned was his "Puss in Boots" tattoo from the movie “Shrek,” which was mentioned in his song, “Wake Me Up.” The maple leaf was appropriately from his first trip to Canada. His idol growing up was Damien Rice, who inspired a tattoo from a personalized sketch he got from the artist. That drawing is now permanently inked on Sheeran’s skin.
The English songwriter also has some random tattoos in the form of a Heinz tomato ketchup bottle, a cup of tea, and Pingu the penguin, that seems to tie him to One Direction’s Harry Styles, who also has the same ink.
He now has a tattoo in honor of the "RED" tour that he is currently on with talented singer Taylor Swift. The most recent addition to his sleeve he got in New Zealand, which is a kiwi bird. It will be interesting to see what the singer decides to get next.
Sheeran dished that he will be heading back to the studio to record new music as soon as the "RED" tour concludes in September.
