Fall Out Boy debuts at No. 1 on Top 200

On today's refresh of Billboard charts, Fall Out Boy grabs the No. 1 slot on the Billboard Top 200 Albums. American Beauty/American Psycho arrives at the top with 218,000 equivalents total. This marks the third No. 1 for the band following 2013's Save Rock and Roll.

Billboard a month ago changed their formula to include track sales using downloaded tracks. For every ten downloads and every 1,500 streams, it now counts as an equivalent. In solid album sales, American Beauty/American Psycho moved 192,000 copies in its debut, becoming their second largest sales week. 2007's Infinity on High entered the charts with 260,000.

In a slow period for album sales, arriving with over 150,000 in a debut week is a feat not done by many. Last week, Meghan Trainor's Title also debuted at No. 1 with 195,000. The last time more than one album sold more than 150,000 was January 2010 when Kesha's Animal, Hope for Haiti Now and Lady Antebellum's smash album Need You Now all had a strong first week, the latter selling 481,000.

Fall Out Boy's American Beauty/American Psycho was led by single "Centuries" which peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Across all charts, the songs highest charting happened on the Hot Rock Songs making its way to No. 2. The band will release their latest single "Uma Thurman" on Feb. 10, the third in the UK and second in the US.

"To me, Uma Thurman and Winona Ryder, they were these women in pop culture who were quirky, but that made me only crush on them harder. and rather than going with the traditional Uma Thurman role, we thought a lot about 'Kill Bill' and who her character was in that, and this kind of resilience and this violence, but there's something that's authentic about it (like a woman taking revenge or being empowered). so that’s what the chorus of the song’s about, and the verses are what you would do to try and capture this woman's affection (sic)," bassist Pete Wentz said of the song.

Beginning in June, Fall Out Boy will go out in support of the new record co-headlining with Wiz Khalifa for the Boys of Zummer Tour.
