What do you get when you combine Uma Thurman and a sample of the credits from the TV show “The Munsters”? You get Fall Out Boy’s latest single, “Uma Thurman.” The song was released via an audio-only music video late in the evening on Jan. 11, 2015, and was posted on the band’s official Facebook page, website and YouTube channel.
"Uma Thurman" clocks in at just over three-and-one-half minutes, and features a pop-like rock sound. The sample from “The Munsters” features the theme song's iconic guitar melody and can be heard throughout the single as well, starting at around 12 seconds in. (Heads up: Check out this link to hear the theme song in its entirety.) On Fall Out Boy’s Facebook page, the band wrote “[...] and rather than going with the traditional Uma Thurman role, we thought a lot about Kill Bill and who her character was in that, and this kind of resilience and this violence, but there's something that's authentic about it (like a woman taking revenge or being empowered).”
“Uma Thurman” is the sixth song released from Fall Out Boy’s upcoming album, American Beauty/American Psycho, following, in alphabetical order, “American Beauty/American Psycho,” “Centuries,” “Immortals,” “Irresistible” and “The Kids Aren’t Alright.”
The new single has generated plenty of praise from fans and critics alike, with Chris Payne of Billboard.com declaring “Uma Thurman” as “best yet” from the band’s upcoming album. The audio-only music video had racked up more than 100,000 views on YouTube and plenty of compliments from fans since the video was posted.
The album American Beauty/American Psycho, the band’s sixth, will be released Jan. 20, 2015, via DCD2 and Island Records. It is available for preorder via iTunes and Amazon.com. As of press time, the album was among the top five on the iTunes album chart.
To celebrate the album release, Fall Out Boy will have shows in London and Chicago later in January. The band’s upcoming schedule also includes performances around the world through the end of March; for concert dates, check out Fall Out Boy’s website. On Dec. 25, 2014, the Chicago-based band also hinted in a post on the official Facebook page that another big announcement would be made soon, leading fans to speculate regarding what the news might include.
