Where are you now, indeed.
Over the past year, Justin Bieber has undergone a massive transformation from teen pop heartthrob to respected, Grammy-winning artist and the singer’s reinvention culminated with an outstanding Grammy performance alongside his Jack Ü collaborators Diplo and Skrillex that showcased the broad skill set of all three individuals.
Though Justin Bieber took the stage clad in a backwards trucker cap and a leopard-print (fur?) suit, his most garish accoutrement might have been his acoustic guitar, at least to skeptics. But he proved himself a surprisingly credible guitarist through his performance of “Love Yourself.” Being the rebel we all know him as, Bieber had no choice but to (attempt to) smash his guitar before switching stages to join Skrillex, Diplo and a full live band for a very interesting rendition of “Where are Ü Now.”
Bieber wasn’ the only one trying on different instruments. Skrillex was rocking a guitar rather than a DJ booth, while Diplo switched between live keys and percussion. It was a compelling version of the song that showed off the genuine musical talents of top artists in a genre not often credited for its musicality. Twitter seemed to like it too.
