Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves dazzled the crowd at her concert on Saturday, June 28, at The Ritz in Manchester, England. Taking the stage with just a guitar, the 25 year old premiered a brand new song, a mid-tempo toe-tapper called "Cup Of Tea." Following the recent iTunes release of "The Trailer Song," the track possesses that signature Musgraves voice and tongue-in-cheek perspective, of bucking trends and mainstream mindset.
Early last year, Musgraves shook the format with the release of her Mercury Records debut set Same Trailer Different Park, bolstered by the Top 10 success of the melancholy debut single "Merry Go Round." She followed that with "Blowin' Smoke," "Follow Your Arrow" (a Top 10 sales smash on Billboard's Hot Country Songs) and "Keep It To Yourself." Despite not gaining much traction with her latest singles, she has targeted fans in other ways, including jumping onto tours for Alison Krauss and Willie Nelson and Katy Perry and hitting up several late-night talk shows. Most recently, Musgraves performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, on which she performed "The Trailer Song" to much fanfare.
Heading into the summer, Musgraves has already performed a slew of dates with Nelson and Krauss. In August, she will serve as the opening act on Perry's sold-out Prismatic World Tour. While it is certainly an unconventional pairing, bother powerhouse singers have admired each others' work, so much so that they recently teamed up for CMT Crossroads. During the showcase, they performed songs from their catalogs, including "Roar" and "Teenage Dream," as well as a cover of Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again."
Later this fall, Musgraves has plans to head back into the studio to kick start her sophomore record. "[I'm] trying to keep some creative ideas going. In the fall, I'll go back into the studio and start making another record," she had shared with Grammy.com in a video exclusive.
