Kacey Musgraves picks up CMA nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year

The 48th Country Music Association Awards showed up on Wednesday on “Good Morning America” and announced their nominees for this year’s event. On hand to announce the awards were Darius Rucker and Little Big Town, who read off the list of the major categories. Among those nominated for the big CMA awards was Texas native Kacey Musgraves, who picked up a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year.

Musgraves has some heavy competition in the category as she faces off with Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. However, despite the competition, Musgraves has to be feeling confident. At the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards show, she picked up the statue for Album of the Year for Same Trailer Different Park.

Despite appearing on “Nashville Star” back in 2007, Musgraves remained a local Texas artist until she finally broke out in 2012 with a new record contract with Mercury and a tour opening for Lady Antebellum. She released her debut single “Merry Go ‘Round” and rocketed to the top. When Same Trailer Different Park went on sale in 2013, it debuted at number two on the Billboard charts, an impressive debut for the artist.

Same Trailer Different Park reached number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart, and after Musgraves won a Grammy for Best Country Album earlier this year and performed on the show, her album went Gold. The 2014 CMA Awards will give the young Texas musician a chance to continue her magical year.

After winning New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards in 2013, she has received numerous nominations plus the two Grammy Awards and the ACM honor earlier this year. Dallas fans will get a chance to see Kacey Musgraves live on Oct. 1 when she performs live at the Granada Theater before heading out on tour with Katy Perry.

Not only is Musgraves nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, but her song “Follow Your Arrow” is nominated for Music Video of the Year and Song of the Year. While she has won two awards this year for Best Album, Same Trailer Different Park was not eligible for the CMA Awards this year, as it was a nominee at the 2013 ceremony, losing to Blake Shelton’s Based on a True Story.

The 48th Country Music Association Awards nominees for Best Album include Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party, Keith Urban’s Fuse, Miranda Lambert’s Platinum, Dierks Bentley’s Riser an Eric Church’s The Outsiders. The CMA Awards will air on ABC Television on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The show will air live and starts at 8 p.m. EST.
