Over the weekend, Microsoft opened another store in Charlotte, North Carolina. The store opened Saturday where they gave away tickets to see a free Kelly Clarkson show the following day. Yesterday, Kelly took the stage for her first full on concert since having her baby daughter, River Rose.
Clarkson went through her hits she's had through the years and in true KC fashion, she had to have her cover song in the set. This time, she chose the hit track "Stay With Me" by UK artist Sam Smith. Played stripped down with only a guitar by the talented Aben Eubanks, Kelly used her soulful vocals to recreate the song. There wasn't a lot of big notes or even strong, she's been away for a while. But where it worked is that her voice when used conservatively has a sweet tone that gives any of her cover songs her own touch.
Kelly Clarkson is the go to gal for every Microsoft Store opening, a partnership that began years ago with the boom of their devices.
Sam Smith's hit "Stay With Me" peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became his most successful single to date. The track hit No. 1 on Adult Top 40 and Adult Contemporary. A more recent recording of the song features Mary J. Blige.
Clarkson will be re-releasing her holiday album Wrapped In Red which includes a DVD of the TV special aired last year on NBC, "Kelly Clarkson's (Cautionary) Christmas Tale." Next year, she will release a new single with an album expected late April, early May.
