Paul McCartney announced on his website March 25 that he will headline this year’s Lollapalooza music festival to take place at Grant Park in Chicago. McCartney will make his first appearance at the festival on July 31. Also announced to appear at the festival are Metallica, Sam Smith, The Machine, Florence, Bassnectar, The Weeknd and Alt-J.
“The heart of Lollapalooza has always been the music,” said Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell. “The brotherhood and sisterhood of musicians is getting stronger and the unexpected surprises and collaborations are cementing magical moments that will live on in music history. Having young talented artists performing alongside legends is all I could ever ask for and I’ll be grinning from ear to ear the entire weekend”.
The McCartney announcement said three-day general admission passes to the festival sold out on March 24 within an hour of going on sale and that a limited number of single day general admission passes will be available today. More information about the festival is available at the Lollapalooza website. Festival tickets for individual days are also available here. Fans worldwide who can’t make it to the festival can also see The Official 2015 Lollapalooza Livestream on a number of supported devices, including Android, iOS, Samsung Smart TV’s and Xbox.
The festival appearance is setting up a busy 2015 “Out There” tour season for McCartney, who will play April 21 at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan. Also on the tour schedule are shows in Tokyo, Seoul and Korea. He also has announced several concerts in the UK, plus shows in France, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden as well as the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware. He played a semi-surprise show at the Irving Theater in New York City on Valentine's Day.
