Although New Orleans is understandably associated primarily with jazz and funk music, the city is teeming with bands of all stripes and styles. The Revivalists have more of a soul-infused southern rock sound but they proudly rep their Crescent City roots and yesterday on day five of Jazz Fest 2016, the band’s high-energy set was warmly embraced by the local crowd.

Taking their cues from hopped-up, mop-topped frontman David Shaw, The Revivalists made good on Shaw’s promise to “take it to a new level.” With their popularity swelling in the wake of a recent Rolling Stone profile, the band has been out on a national tour but their homecoming set at Jazz Fest was peppered with songs that especially resonated with the Big Easy audience, including “Catching Butterflies,” which shouts out the local establishment Snake & Jakes.

Check out backstage shots and other candid photos of The Revivalists at Jazz Fest by photographer Amy Harris above. Visit The Revivalists’ Facebook page for a full list of their upcoming tour dates and tune into AXS TV this weekend for live coverage of Jazz Fest 2016.
